The Color Grid Painitings

With these color grid paintings, my creative process becomes an assigned registration as I work through a specific and dictated system to create these images. The system used here to create each painting is a number based puzzle. Once the puzzle is resolved, the completed puzzle itself becomes the sketch as the signifiers are transcribed to create. Operating within such a system, each compositional element correlates to a decision made as I move through the task of solving a number-based puzzle.

Creating an image in such a manner allows for the secondary actions of primary decisions made to be pushed to the forefront as the desired function used to create. The byproduct of the initial becomes the primary.

If I am unable to complete a puzzle, I cannot create a composition from that failure.
