New Found Lines These drawings are the transcribed
markings of analyzed action displayed by the telestrator during the course of a live football game viewed on television. Like
a jackass I sit for four hours a foot and a half in front of the television screen with pen in hand waiting for the sportscaster
to evaluate some play on the field, eyes be damned in the later years of my life. I have a sheet of mylar taped to the screen
so I can record the yellow lines of discussion. By the end of a game the telestrator output has become a layered combination
of line creating composition. Again, with these drawings I am searching for yet another possibility to create by allowing
a secondary function (the usage of the telestrator by the sportscaster) of the primary (the happening actions of football
game play) to create an image. In searching for something beyond the controlled diction of learned skill and what makes a
successful piece of artwork, I allow for the splatter of a situation to define my work. Definition of ‘telestrator’:
A telestrator is a device that allows its operator to draw a freehand sketch over a motion picture
image.
