Title
Card Paintings
With the Title Card Paintings I use excerpts from literature for the titles of each painting. I use phrases that once stripped
from their original context can be understood in a variety of ways, such as: 1-the title is referring to the act
of what I am specifically applying, albeit color choice, process, concept, etc. 2-the title is making a statement concerning
myself, as the canvas reads my name and then a remark made in quotes just beneath. 3-the title is referring back to the original
text that has now become detached from the original author's intentions, therefore allowing for the viewer to personalize
the words. However it is up to the viewer to distinguish which instance I am providing.
Again, here I am playing with not only collaboration, as the words are not mine, but also with the notion that defines a painting
as well. |
